Why Do I Need An Appraisal?

People have many reasons to get jewelry appraised. You may choose to get jewelry appraised for liquidation or you might also need to value your jewelry if you are getting a divorce or valuing your jewelry as collateral or for Estate Tax valuations. The most common reason for an appraisal is for Insurance Coverage purposes.

An Appraisal from TXJewelryAppraiser consists of concise, objective and accurate printed reports provided in a folder. You will receive your completed report at the end of your appointment.

What is the average cost per written jewelry appraisal?

What is the average cost per written jewelry appraisal?
The appraisal cost starts at $95 per item. The cost may vary depending on the detail of the item being appraised as well as store location. Cost will be discussed prior to work being performed.
We offer "ESTATE" rates, which allows a discount for larger collections.
Note- This can vary depending on the detail of the jewelry item. Estimates on detailed items will be quoted prior to work

Do I need to make an appointment for a jewelry appraisal?

Yes. Appointments ensure that each client will receive individual and prompt service. Click here to book an appointment.

How long does it take to do a jewelry appraisal? Do I need to leave my jewelry?

Clients do need to leave their jewelry, but are encouraged to stay and observe the appraisal process. Please allow approximately 30 minutes - one hour per item. Of course, clients are able to make arrangements to leave their jewelry and return after the appraisal is completed.

How often do I need to have my jewelry appraised?

Most insurance companies recommend that you have your jewelry appraisal reports updated every 3-4 years. This is important to capture appreciation over time.

Do I need to bring any other documentation with me when I come for my appointment?

Yes. In order to give you the most accurate appraisal possible, please bring any documentation you have about the items to be appraised: This includes:

  • Diamond or gemstone certificates from AGS, GIA, EGL, IGI or GSI
  • Old insurance summaries listing the property
What information is provided in the Appraisal?
  • Detailed description of each item
  • Photograph of each item printed on the document
  • Metal content determination as well as current gold value
  • Gemstone identification, grading, measurement and weight calculation/estimation
  • Fully researched valuation at the appropriate market level for items which are unique such as vintage, estate, antique, watches and other specialty items
  • An explanation of value, itemized by stone size and measurement
  • A complete evaluation of the mounting is done and is described in detail in the final report.
  • Each piece of jewelry will be weighed, measured and described in detail.
  • Inscriptions, hallmarks, karat stamps, signatures and any other identifying markings are noted.
  • Any additional diamond accents or colored stones are evaluated for clarity and color and carat weight and
    are estimated using the appropriate formulas. The findings are noted in the report.

  • Custom design and hand fabricated work, along with signed pieces are noted and taken into account in the
    final value conclusion.
